Sania Mirza is a former Indian Tennis player. According to the Women’s Tennis Association from 2003, this Mumbai girl has ranked no 1 position in the singles in India. Throughout her career, Mirza has established herself as one of India’s most well-known, profitable, and prominent athletes. She started playing Tennis just at the age of 6. Her father Imran Mirza and Roger Anderson have coached the young spirit.
The Indian gem was born on November 15, 1986, in Mumbai and brought up in a Hyderabadi Muslim family with the parents Imran Mirza and Naseema Mirza. Her parents worked in the printing industry. Sania was raised with her younger sister Anam in a devoted Sunni Muslim home.
In 2009, Sania got engaged with former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. On 12th April 2010, at Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad, Mirza wed Malik according to Pakistani wedding traditions.
In October 2018, Izhaan Mirza Malik, son of Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik, was come into the sports family.
At the age of 6, Sania took up the tennis bat. At her initial stage, the skill of her playing was started polishing through the guidance of her father Imran Mirza, who was a journalist by profession.
In her fabulous sports career, Sania achieved 10 singles titles and 13 doubles titles, including Wimbledon and the Afro-Asian Games in 2003. At the 2004 AP Tourism Hyderabad Open, she was the first Indian woman who won her first Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles championship. In the same year, Sania Mirza won six ITF singles titles. Sania Mirza gained her first Premier Mandatory title in 2011 at Indian Wells and her first Australian Open Grand Slam Doubles trophy at the 2009 Australian Open. She and Mattek-Sands won the doubles title at the 2013 Dubai Championships. Mirza won five WTA titles in 2013. She ranked second at the Porsche Open and clinched the Portugal Open doubles championship in 2014. She achieved a Gold and a Bronze medal in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
She had multiple triumphs and defeats over the years, with a career-high in 2015. She created a milestone by being the first Indian to occupy the top spot in the WTA doubles rankings. She took maternity leave in 2018. In the year 2020, she came back on her track in a devastating way by winning the Hobert International with Nadiia Kichenok.
On 19th January 2022, during the Australian Open women’s doubles, Mirza, the gem of the Indian Tennis world declared of taking her retirement because of her physical deterioration.
