India’s top female tennis player Sania Mirza was born on November 15th, 1986. Mirza emerged as a phenomenally brilliant young tennis prodigy, dominating the Indian domestic circuit and eventually making a name for herself at Wimbledon by taking home the Girls’ Doubles trophy. 

While Mirza could win several singles titles on the local circuit and perform respectably on the Grand Slam circuit, she could not advance as far as she had hoped. After suffering a wrist injury, which was a contributing factor to her career low, she began to focus on doubles and mixed doubles competitions to compensate for her lack of singles form, a strategy that ultimately led to her success at the Grand Slam tournaments.

Mirza and fellow Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi were tremendously successful in mixed doubles, and subsequently, Mirza teamed up with Swiss great Martina Hingis.
