Before the second Test against England at Edgbaston, India’s captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir brought back a team tradition that had been missing during the Australia tour. According to NDTV sources, Gill hosted a team dinner on Sunday with all the players.
Team Bonding, Selection Dilemmas, and Pressure to Level the Series
The idea was to build stronger team connections, especially with many new faces in the squad. This gesture has been seen positively, especially since no similar event took place during the Australia series when Rohit Sharma was captain.
After India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, many pointed to a lack of unity in the squad. Reports suggested that head coach Gautam Gambhir was unhappy with the team being split into separate groups.
Now, with Shubman Gill as the new captain, Gambhir appears determined to change that. He seems keen on reviving old team traditions to bring the group closer.
On the cricketing front, the biggest buzz ahead of the second Test is around Jasprit Bumrah, who might be rested. The team management is reportedly considering giving the star fast bowler a break.
“Jasprit Bumrah is available. We are trying to find the right combination that can pick 20 wickets and score runs as well. Will take the final call after looking at the wicket for the final time today,” said skipper Gill in the pre-game conference.
“It is difficult, but at the end of the day, our team comprises the best players in India. It is difficult but not impossible. The other players are playing for the country based on their performances. Luckily, we have a massive pool full of talent, which is why we are able to compete away from home,” he added.
After losing the first Test in Leeds, the Indian team is under pressure to bounce back. Another defeat would put them 0-2 down in the series, making a comeback much more difficult.
