SL vs BAN – Sri Lanka Cruise to Victory
In the SL vs BAN match of the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh was held to a humble score of 139/5 due to some excellent early bowling by Sri Lanka. Pathum Nissanka’s 50 in a flash and a good 95-run stand with Kamil Mishara (46*) helped Sri Lanka register the win comfortably, reaching the target in only 14.4 overs, winning six wickets in the process.
Bangladesh’s PowerPlay Failures
Sri Lanka’s bowlers caused an early impact with two wicket-maidens in the initial overs. Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera cut a swathe by dismissing Bangladesh’s openers before they could get on the boards.
The middle order of Bangladesh was in turmoil, and things were simply not going their way. Towhid Hridoy, a lucky man who was given a fortunate reprieve, was run out via a brilliant direct hit from Kamil Mishara. At the end of PowerPlay, Bangladesh was in a predicament at 30/3, having scored at just ahead of 5 runs an over.
PowerPlay Stats:
Sri Lanka: 55/1 at 9.167 RPO
Bangladesh: 30/3 at 5 RPO

Despite of the initial wickets, Bangladesh recovered due to a record sixth-wicket stand between Jaker Ali (41)* and *Shamim Hossain (42)**. The pair contributed 86 runs from 65 balls, creating a new record national sixth-wicket stand.
Their consistent stand took the total to a decent 139/5 at the end of 20 overs. The Sri Lankan bowlers did not dominate the death overs, as Matheesha Pathirana gave away 18 runs in one over, including a six off Shamim Hossain.

Sri Lanka: 85/3 at 9.81 RPO
Sri Lanka’s Masterclass Chasing in the PowerPlay
Chasing a score of 140, Sri Lanka lost a wicket early when Kusal Mendis was caught for only six off Mustafizur Rahman. But Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara grabbed the reins and played an amazing partnership.
Nissanka was dropped by Mahedi Hasan on 1, and then he made Bangladesh sweat by breaking boundaries, like a six off Shoriful Islam and three back-to-back fours. With Mishara, they guided Sri Lanka to 55/1 at the end of the PowerPlay, at a run rate of 9.167.
Middle Overs: Nissanka Reigns, But A Sudden Collapse Keeps Bangladesh In Hopes
With the game going into the middle overs, Nissanka was in charge with his master strokeplay, reaching 50 in 31 balls. This not only achieved his individual milestone of 2000 ODI runs but also provided Sri Lanka with a good base.
Bangladesh then fought back in fleeting fashion through a three-wicket collapse when Nissanka and Kusal Perera were dismissed by Mahedi Hasan, and Dasun Shanaka was sent back cheaply. Yet, Sri Lanka’s initial buffer was sufficient.
Middle Overs Stats:
Sri Lanka: 85/3 at 9.81 RPO
Bangladesh: 54/5 at 6.75 RPO
Sri Lanka’s Comfortable Finish
