Soorma Hockey Club Announce Harmanpreet Singh As Captain For HIL 2024/25 Season

A new chapter in Indian hockey is about to begin as the Men’s Hockey India League 2024-25 starts on 28th December, with the final scheduled for 1st February.
Ahead of the upcoming league, Soorma Hockey Club named Harmanpreet Singh, a double Olympic bronze medalist, as their captain for the upcoming season of the Hockey India League on Friday.
Harmanpreet Singh, an Arjuna awardee and two-time FIH Best Player of the Year, expressed his excitement about leading the Punjab and Haryana-based franchise. “I’m looking forward to leading this incredible team and representing a region that holds a special place in my heart. It’s a privilege and an honour,” said the star drag-flicker.

He also spoke about the team’s preparation and camaraderie following their pre-season camp at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Chandigarh. “We have a strong team that has bonded well during the camp. Many of us have played together for years, and we’re complemented by some exciting young talents and experienced international players. Our goal is clear – to win the trophy,” he added.
The Head Coach of Soorma Hockey Club, Jeroen Baart also praised Harmanpreet Singh’s leadership qualities. He said: “Harmanpreet’s experience as the Indian Men’s Hockey Team captain, his composure under pressure, and the respect he commands from both Indian and foreign players make him the perfect choice to lead the team. We are excited to see him guide the team this season,”
Soorma Hockey Club will kick off its inaugural campaign on Sunday, facing off against the Tamil Nadu Dragons at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.
