Kamindu Mendis Shows Rare Talent in IPL Debut

In his debut IPL match, Kamindu Mendis bowled just one over but made an impact by dismissing KKR’s half-centurion Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Though new to the IPL, Kamindu Mendis has been a key player for Sri Lanka, having played 12 Test matches, 19 ODIs, and 23 T20Is.

KKR’s Struggles Continue at the Top

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) set a strong total of 200/6 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 15 of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens, thanks to a late-innings surge from Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh.

KKR’s openers struggled again, failing to give the team a solid start. Quinton de Kock fell for 1 after miscuing a pull shot off Pat Cummins, while Sunil Narine edged a delivery from Mohammed Shami to the keeper for 7. With KKR at 17/2 in three overs, captain Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi stepped in to rebuild the innings.

With KKR struggling, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied the innings with smart batting. They played aggressive yet controlled shots, capitalizing on short deliveries and running well between the wickets. Rahane looked in good touch, hitting three sixes, but was dismissed for 38 off 27 balls while attempting a reverse sweep against Zeeshan Ansari.

Raghuvanshi showed great composure, reaching his second IPL fifty in just 30 balls. However, his solid knock of 50 off 32 balls (five fours, two sixes) ended when he sliced Kamindu Mendis’ off-spin to deep backward point. With KKR at 109/4 in 13.2 overs, the pressure shifted to the middle order.

Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29) and Rinku Singh (32* off 17) then took charge. They started cautiously but exploded in the final overs. Iyer played powerful shots off Simarjeet and Shami, while Rinku changed the momentum by smashing three consecutive fours off Harshal Patel in the 17th over.

Pat Cummins’ 19th over changed the game as Rinku Singh smashed 4, 6, 4, 4, 2, 1, reaching his fifty in just 25 balls. His explosive batting, along with Venkatesh Iyer’s steady knock, powered KKR to 200/6. The duo added 91 runs in just 41 balls, scoring at an impressive rate of 11.25. KKR’s late surge, with 91 runs in the last seven overs, put SRH’s bowlers under immense pressure.
