Both teams ended their group stage at the top before producing composed performances in the Round of 32. Colombia edged past Ghana 1-0, scoring early and then controlling the contest with ease. They created the better chances throughout and never allowed Ghana a single shot on target.
Switzerland started on a shaky note, but they remained in control. An early goal in each half helped Murat Yakin’s side secure a comfortable 2-0 victory and book their place in the last 16 without ever looking under serious pressure.

Switzerland have had a decent World Cup campaign as of now, drawing 1-1 with Qatar in their opening match. However, Murat Yakin’s side showed improvement after every game and now they are set for the Round of 16 clash on the back of three straight wins.
Their best performance in the World Cup came over Bosnia and Herzegovina with a 4-1 victory. The match was level until the closing stages, but substitutes Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas made an instant impact as Switzerland scored four goals after the 74th minute to seal an emphatic win. Impressed by their performances, Yakin handed both players a place in the starting lineup for the final group game against co-hosts Canada. Switzerland won 2-1 to finish top of Group B and book their place in the knockout stage.
The pair carried their momentum in the Round of 32 against Algeria. Manzambi was especially impressive, setting up Breel Embolo’s opening goal just 10 minutes into the match as Switzerland secured a comfortable 2-0 victory.
With their confidence growing after each game, Switzerland look like a team hitting their stride at the right time and will be hoping to carry that momentum into their clash with Colombia.

Colombia
Colombia head into Tuesday’s clash after winning five of their last six matches, with the only exception being a goalless draw against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in their final group-stage game.
That match could easily have ended in a Colombia victory, but Davinson Sánchez’s stoppage-time goal was ruled out for offside. Even so, Néstor Lorenzo’s side finished top of Group K and booked their place in the Round of 32.
They then edged past Ghana 1-0 in a disciplined performance. The win was made more impressive because Colombia lost striker Jhon Córdoba to a hamstring injury just minutes after kickoff, forcing them to change their plans early in the game.
Ghana had already shown how difficult they are to break down after holding England to a goalless draw in the group stage, so Colombia will take plenty of confidence from finding a way to beat them. Defensively, Colombia have also been one of the strongest teams in the tournament. They have kept clean sheets in each of their last three matches and have conceded just one goal so far, which came in their World Cup opening match, where they won 3-1 over Uzbekistan.

Switzerland
Switzerland head into the match without the service of midfielder Michel Aebischer, who is still recovering from a muscle injury and has been training separately from the rest of the squad. Centre-back Luca Jaquez’s availability is also doubtful after picking up a muscle problem, with the Stuttgart defender yet to rejoin full team training.
If neither player is fit in time, head coach Murat Yakin is expected to stick with Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler in midfield, with Johan Manzambi playing just ahead of them. At the back, Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi are likely to continue as the central defensive pairing.
Colombia
Colombia, meanwhile, have suffered a major setback ahead of the Round of 16 clash as striker Jhon Córdoba has been ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a hamstring injury.
His replacement, Luis Suárez, made an immediate impact after coming off the bench by setting up the winning goal. Following that impressive cameo, the Sporting Lisbon striker is expected to lead the line from the start against Switzerland.
