The South African bowlers were in top form, dismantling the Sri Lankan batting lineup remarkably. The match saw a stellar performance from Ottneil Baartman and Anrich Nortje, whose bowling prowess was too much for Sri Lanka to handle. Baartman made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with his first ball, eventually conceding only nine runs in his four overs. Nortje was equally impressive, achieving extraordinary figures of 4/7 from his four overs, highlighting South Africa’s dominant performance.

Sri Lanka’s Struggles in New York Opener

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Sri Lanka found themselves struggling against the South African bowlers. Pathum Nissanka fell to Baartman on the very first delivery, setting the tone for the innings. Keshav Maharaj further compounded Sri Lanka’s woes with two quick wickets in a single over. The introduction of Nortje into the attack spelt the end for Sri Lanka’s hopes of a recovery, as his devastating spell ensured they could only muster a total of 77 runs in 19.1 overs. Kagiso Rabada also contributed significantly with figures of 2/21.

The only Sri Lankan batsmen to reach double figures were Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and Angelo Mathews, underscoring a disappointing batting display from the team.
