The Story

If we talk about the match. India had a poor outing with the bat as the team could only post a small total of 119 runs on the board giving Pakistan a target of 120 runs and with that the hope of registering their second win against India in World Cup Cricket. Having said that the Indian bowlers had other ideas as the bowling led by Bumrah didn’t provide Pakistani batters the chance to play with freedom and restricted them to 113 runs in their allotted 20 overs thereby helping India register a memorable win over the arch-rivals in T20 World Cup.

The Performance

As far as individual performances are concerned then the one player who stood out in the match with both bat and behind the wickets was Rishabh Pant. The left-hander who walked in after the fall of Kohli’s wicket started playing his shots from ball one and had a clear plan of not letting the bowlers settle. However, Pant was also lucky as he got few lives during his innings of 42 runs when the Pakistani fielders who are not known for their fielding missed a few catches thereby helping Pant continue his attacking approach against the bowlers. Pant’s inning was one of the reasons India posted a total of 119 runs on the board.

Key Takeaways

There were many key takeaways for team India from the T20 World Cup match against Pakistan

Bumrah’s Form

One of the biggest positives for India from the match against Pakistan was Jasprit Bumrah’s form. The fast bowler who is an integral part of the team in all three formats of the game was instrumental in India’s win over Pakistan in New York as he picked up the crucial wickets of Pakistani captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed to break the back of Pakistan’s chase. Apart from picking up three important wickers Bumrah also bowled economically in all phases of the game helping the team in building pressure from one end. The captain and team management would hope for Bumrah to continue his form in the upcoming matches.

Hardik’s Bowling

The performance of the fast-bowling all-rounder was another key takeaway for team India from the match against Pakistan. Hardik who failed to make a significant contribution with the bat made up for it through his exploits with the ball. The Indian vice-captain picked up two wickets including the crucial one of Fakhar Zaman who was threatening to take the game away from India’s grasp.

The Plan

Hardik picked up both wickets on the short ball as he saw both Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan coming down the track, and kept the length short cramping the batters for room by following them as a result both Fakhar and Shadab were not able to play the pull shot with ease and ended up skying the ball to the keeper. Hardik’s form is one of the biggest takeaways for the team as it gives them the option of playing an extra batter if needed.
