After the President of BCCI, Saurav Ganguly, made an official announcement that Bumrah is not yet ruled out of the T20 World Cup tournament, the medical report from BCCI has further accelerated the chances of Bumrah making a much anticipated comeback in the World Cup tournament.
Amidst all the scuttlebutt regarding Bumrah’s health and his participation in the T20 World Cup tournament, the medical reports have now provided clarity about the ground situation. According to the medical reports, Jasprit Bumrah, who complained of an intolerable back pain after the 3rd T20I against Australia in Hyderabad, is not suffering from a stress fraction of the back.
The medical source from BCCI revealed that the pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, is not suffering from a stress fracture but from stress reaction. The source further mentioned that while it takes 5-6 months for patients with a stress fracture to recover, patients with ‘stress reaction’ can recover in a time span of 4-6 weeks.
Although it’s quite sceptical whether it would be possible and advisable for Bumrah to travel from Mumbai to Perth on October 5 for the preparations for the T20 World Cup, the player could make a comeback into the team if he recovers from the ongoing stress reaction by October 15.
India has undoubtedly suffered a major setback with Bumrah’s injury. Bumrah made a storming comeback in India’s playing XI after the bowling unit of the cricket team failed to perform in the first T20I against Australia in Mohali. Although many legendary cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid are hoping for Bumrah to return to the World Cup tournament, keeping his fitness status in mind, the national selectors and the management started training other bowlers of the team.
The rising bowlers including Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are on the radar of the national selectors and one of them might replace Bumrah in case he fails to make a comeback in the T20 World Cup tournament.
