In a significant breakthrough for Pakistan cricket fans, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim have been formally signed up as replacements for The Hundred 2025, for the Northern Superchargers. This follows widespread rumors that Pakistani players were being excluded from the competition due to the influence of newly joined Indian investors.

The signing of the pair is a significant milestone and ensures that The Hundred remains accessible to all international cricketers, irrespective of geopolitics.

Imad Wasim replaces Mitchell Santner (out for two games)

The Superchargers are now moving into new hands in the Sun Group, an Indian media group that will assume operational control from October 1, 2025. Against fears, the shift confirms Pakistani players are still welcome in The Hundred.

Pakistani Players Initially Ignored in The Hundred Draft

When no Pakistani men’s players were selected in the March 2025 draft, there was speculation about their omission, particularly in light of past seasons.

But the impact of ownership switches on nationality-based player selection was ruled out earlier this year by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

“Worry won’t be happening here,” ECB CEO Richard Gould had said in February, answering fears about Indian investor control over team selections.

The initial snubbing can also be attributed to:

Pakistan’s packed white-ball calendar (tour of West Indies & UAE tri-series)

Recent T20I form slump

Last-gasp withdrawals in 2024 by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah

Ben Stokes Returns as a Mentor

Although Ben Stokes sat out during The Hundred 2025 playing stint due to shoulder rehab, the England Test skipper will remain in proximity of the Northern Superchargers’ camp in a mentor role.

“I won’t be playing, but I’ll be knocking about,” Stokes replied. “No pen or notebook — I just want to give my time to the lads as I rebuild.”

Stokes teams up with Andrew Flintoff and Harry Brook to provide support to team morale during the competition.
