Fifa World Cup: The biggest event of football Fifa World Cup is all set to take place from the 11th June and the final match will be played on 19th of July. This time 48 teams are participating and 103 matches will be played between them. It would be one of the major events in the sports world for a month. Players give their best to win the match and sometimes they try their best and give their 100% to the game. Still, due to bad decisions by referees, the team has to pay for that. Today, we will take a look at the top worst decisions by a referee in Fifa World Cup History. 

Here are the top 5 worst Referee-decisions 

1- Diego Maradona – 1986

During the Quarter-Final match between Argentina and England. A big dispute occurred in the history of the Fifa World Cup. Diego Maradona jumped in the air and punched a ball towards net to England Goalkeeper Peter Shilton, But the match referee was not able to spot the ball and declared it Goal. Later on Maradona accepted it as ‘Hand of the God’.

2- Haralad Schumacher – 1982

In 1982 Full Drama happened during the epic clash when Patrick Battison raced towards the west and then German Goalkeeper Harald Schumacher collapsed with him. Even though Pattrick Battison fell unconscious and lost his teeth too, Still the referee failed to address the issue and did not show any card or even award. 

3- Frank Lampard – 2010

During the Round 16 match between England and Germany. A player from England Frank Lampard hit a shot that crossed the bar and clearly bounced over the full yard of the goal line. And the referee waved on keeping the score 2-3. Eventually Germany wins the game by 2-1. This is called Goal-line-technology.

4- Graham Poll – 2006

In the most epic battle between Croatia and Australia. The English referee committed the most unpredctive error by  Croatian defender Josip Šimunic three times. The referee showed him twice a yellow card but forgot to show a red card. He was sent off after he showed a third time card in the 93rd minute.

5- South Korea vs Italy & Spain – 2002

The worst referee decision football fans have witnessed. During the round 16 the referee of match awarded a penalty to a South Korean player also wrongly sent off the Italy s Francesco Totti and denied the Golden Goal for italian and it was one of the worst referee footballs has seen.
