Well, another good news for the Indian Badminton Fans, as the Indian Men’s Team have qualified for the quarter-finals of the ongoing Thomas Cup 2020 as they defeat Tahiti 5-0 in the Group C encounter on Tuesday, 12th October.
Meanwhile, the Indian Women’s Team have also advanced into the quarter-finals of Uber Cup 2020. The prestigious tournament – Thomas & Uber Cup – this year is being played at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark from October 9th to 17th. With Thomas Cup being Men’s World Team Championships, whereas Uber Cup is Women’s World Team Championships.
At the ongoing Thomas Cup 2020, India is placed in Group C with Netherlands, Tahiti and defending champion China. Meanwhile, India had defeated Netherlands 5-0 in their opening tie at this tournament. And had achieved the same result against Tahiti, thus booking their quarter-finals berth.
India had rested their Men’s Singles player Srikanth Kidambi and Double’s Pair of Arjun M.R./Dhruv Kapila for this tie against Tahiti. Hence, allowing young players to play.
First Up, Men’s Singles as India’s B. Sai Praneeth ranked 15th in the world defeated Louis Beaubois of Tahiti in two straight games 21-5, 21-6. The match lasted for twenty-three minutes as B. Sai Praneeth dominated throughout the match. Hence, India is in lead 1-0.
Meanwhile, Next up is 2nd Men’s Singles where this time it’s Sameer Verma who gave India a 2-0 advantage. Sameer Verma, 28th Ranked defeated Rémi Rossi of Tahiti in two straight games 21-12, 21-12 in about 41 minutes. With that, India 2-0 Tahiti.
Next fixture – 3rd Men’s Singles; as India’s Kiran George defeated Elias Maublanc of Tahiti in 15 Minutes. The Indian won in style in two straight games by a score of 21-4, 21-2. Kiran George was dominating and had control of the match, in both mid-game intervals he was leading by a margin of 11-2. As a result, by leading 3-0 and confirming their victory – India booked the QF Spot.
Meanwhile, Men’s Doubles is next as India’s pair Krishna Prasad Garaga/Vishnu Vardhan was up against Glen Lefoll/Rémi Rossi of Tahiti. The Indian pair won the match in two straight games 21-8, 21-7 in about 21 minutes. Thus, India 4-0 Tahiti.
The final fixture of the tie, Men’s Doubles where World No. 10 from India Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty defeated Elias Maublanc/Heiva Yvonet in two straight games 21-5, 21-3. The match lasted for about 15 minutes. With this, India 5-0 Tahiti.
As a result, India won 5-0 against Tahiti. Meanwhile, India will play its last Group C match of Thomas Cup 2020 against China, the defending champion on 14th October, Thursday. However, India has advanced into the knockout stage i.e., the quarter-finals.
