Tim David’s Big Bash League 2025-26 season has ended far earlier than anyone hoped, leaving both the Hobart Hurricanes and Australian cricket worried about what comes next. The explosive batter has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament after picking up a hamstring injury.

The setback has also raised concerns about David’s availability for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The injury happened during the Hurricanes’ clash against the Perth Scorchers on Friday, December 26, cutting short what was expected to be another strong season for the power hitter.

Hamstring Injury Brings Tim David’s BBL Campaign to a Sudden Stop

The moment of concern came when David tried to push for a second run. He immediately felt discomfort in his hamstring and wisely chose to retire hurt to avoid making things worse. At the time, there was some optimism that the injury might not be too serious.

Unfortunately, scans later confirmed the worst. Medical reports showed a hamstring strain, ruling David out for the remainder of the Big Bash League. According to Code Sports, the injury has been identified as a grade two right hamstring strain, bringing his BBL 2025-26 campaign to an early and disappointing end.

This is a significant blow for the Hobart Hurricanes, who rely heavily on David’s firepower in the middle order. It is also a concern for Australia, although there is still hope that he will be fit in time for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which begins on February 7, 2026, in India and Sri Lanka.

Hobart Hurricanes Yet to Announce a Replacement

So far, the Hobart Hurricanes have not released an official statement confirming David’s season-ending injury or named a replacement. However, they have already hinted that he is expected to miss a large part of the tournament.

On their official website, the club said, “Unfortunately for Hurricanes fans, Tim David is likely to miss an extended part of the tournament with a hamstring injury, with the full extent of the injury to be confirmed in the coming days. A statement will be provided to media once more is known.”

The Hurricanes have meanwhile announced their squad for the upcoming Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Renegades, set to be played at Ninja Stadium on Monday, December 29.

Andrew McDonald Confident Time Is on Tim David’s Side

Despite the disappointment, Australian head coach Andrew McDonald remains positive about David’s recovery, especially considering Australia’s schedule at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Australia is set to face Ireland and Zimbabwe in their opening group matches, which could allow the team to rest David if needed. Their key clash against Sri Lanka is scheduled for February 16, giving him extra time to recover fully.

McDonald shared his thoughts on the situation, saying, “Not sure whether it’s just pure muscle or tendon, and that’ll give us a timeframe. I think the timeframe will be kind to TD as well. So, he should be available regardless of what that injury is.”

While Tim David’s BBL season has ended in frustration, there is still hope that the timing of the injury will work in his favor and allow him to return when Australia needs him most.
