The Afghanistan Men’s National team has represented the country in international matches. As per reports, the Afghanistan Cricket Board was formed in 1995, and afterwards became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001, as well as a member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003. However, the full ICC Membership was granted to the team on 22 June 2017 after many years of playing cricket. The team is further considered as the first country to ever achieve Full Member status, after holding Affiliate Membership of the ICC.

Moreover, the team is placed at 9th position, as per T20 International (T20I) cricket rankings of January 2021. Furthermore, the team is said to hold the world record for the highest ever T20I score, with their score of 278/3 against Ireland at Dehradun on 23 February 2019. But the past records also consist of a few matches when the team lost to their competitors with a margin of 1 or 2 runs.
