5. AB de Villiers / Quinton de Kock – 21 Balls vs England (2016)
In February 2016, AB de Villiers broke his own record. He made a fifty in just 21 balls against England in Johannesburg. De Villiers opened the innings and scored 71 runs from 29 balls. His powerful hitting helped South Africa chase down 172 easily.
A month later, Quinton de Kock made a fifty in 21 balls too. He did this in a T20 World Cup match against England. De Kock’s quick fifty helped South Africa score 229 runs in Mumbai. But, England won the game with a great chase.
4. Tristan Stubbs – 19 Balls vs England (2022)
Tristan Stubbs made a name for himself in July 2022. He hit a 19-ball fifty against England in Bristol. Stubbs scored 72 runs from 28 balls. His innings included eight big sixes. Even though Stubbs played well, South Africa lost the match by 41 runs. They were chasing a big target of 235 runs.
3. Quinton de Kock – 17 Balls vs England (2020)
Quinton de Kock appears on this list again. This time, he scored a fifty in just 17 balls against England in February 2020 in Durban. De Kock hit 65 runs off 22 balls. He smashed eight sixes in his quick innings. South Africa was chasing 205, but even with De Kock’s great start, they lost by just three runs.
2. Marco Jansen – 16 Balls vs India (2024)
Marco Jansen made one of the fastest fifties for South Africa in 2024. He hit a fifty in only 16 balls against India in Centurion. Jansen came in when South Africa was struggling at 142/5, chasing 220. His quick 54 runs from 17 balls, with four fours and five sixes, gave South Africa hope. But they still lost by 11 runs.
1. Quinton de Kock – 15 Balls vs West Indies (2023)
The fastest fifty by a South African batsman in T20I cricket was by Quinton de Kock. In March 2023, he hit a fifty in just 15 balls against the West Indies in Centurion. De Kock played an incredible innings, scoring 100 runs from 44 balls. His brilliant batting helped South Africa chase down a huge total of 258 runs, making it the highest successful chase in T20I cricket.
