The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is just around the corner and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, running from 7 February to 8 March 2026. As excitement builds, India’s rich World Cup batting legacy stands out.

Virat Kohli leads all Indian batters with 1,292 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (529 runs), and Gautam Gambhir. Together, these legends form India’s top five run-scorers in T20 World Cup history, highlighting the team’s dominance in the format.

Virat Kohli: T20 World Cup Highest Run-Scorer

Virat Kohli is India’s highest run-scorer in Men’s T20 World Cup history and one of the most reliable batters the tournament has ever seen. Between 2012 and 2024, he scored 1,292 runs in 35 matches at an outstanding average of 58.72, which shows his consistency in big games. Kohli has hit 15 half-centuries, 

the most by any player in the tournament, and recorded his best score of 89 not out against the West Indies in 2016. He also holds the record for most runs in a single edition (319 in 2014) and has won two Player of the Tournament awards (2014, 2016), proving his dominance on the World Cup stage.

Rohit Sharma: One of the Leading Scorers In T20 World Cup 

Rohit Sharma has been a standout performer for India in T20 WC. Across 47 matches (44 innings), he scored 1,220 runs at a strong average of 34.86 with a strike rate of 133.04. His highest score of 92 showcases his power-hitting ability, and he has registered 12 half-centuries for India. 

While he bowls rarely and has no wickets in the event, Rohit’s consistent batting and leadership have been central to India’s success in the T20 World Cup format.

Yuvraj Singh’s T20 World Cup Performance

Yuvraj Singh has been one of India’s most exciting hitters in Men’s T20 World Cup history. Known for his aggressive batting, he scored valuable runs across multiple tournaments, often turning games with his power and flair. 

Yuvraj’s performances helped India reach deep stages in several editions, and he remains remembered for his match-winning knocks on the world stage. His contributions in batting and all-around skills made him a key player for India in the T20 WC’s.

MS Dhoni and the T20 World Cup

MS Dhoni has been a calm and reliable performer for India in the Men’s T20 World Cup. In 29 innings, he scored 529 runs and remained not out 14 times, showing his finishing skills. Dhoni averaged an impressive 35.27 with a strike rate of 123.89, often guiding India in pressure situations.

His highest score was 45, and he was never dismissed for a duck. Even without a fifty or a hundred, Dhoni’s consistency and composure made him invaluable in WC matches.

Gautam Gambhir Key Player in T20 World Cup

Gautam Gambhir was a key Indian opener in the early Men’s T20 WC.  In 21 matches, he scored 524 runs with a highest score of 75, demonstrating solid top-order batting for India.

 Gambhir provided consistency at the crease and helped India build strong starts in big games, especially during the formative years of the tournament. His contributions were vital in India’s batting line-up, making him one of the notable Indian batsmen in T20 World Cup history.
