Tristan Stubbs Joins Hampshire For T20 Blast Ahead Of English Summer

4 Min Read

Tristan Stubbs, the South African wicket-keeper batter, has joined Hampshire for the English summer, further cementing the Delhi Capitals’ ties with the county team. The talented right-handed batter will play in the T20 Blast and The Hundred, joining Hampshire directly after the end of the IPL 2026.

Tristan Stubbs Set for Busy Three-Month Tenure in England

As per reports, Tristan Stubbs will be with Hampshire for almost three months, taking advantage of a relatively quiet period in the international calendar of South Africa.

T20 Blast: May 26 – July 18

The Hundred: July 21 – August 16

This will provide Stubbs with the opportunity to experience the English conditions extensively and stay active during a relatively quiet period in the international calendar of the Proteas.

Strong Delhi Capitals Influence at Hampshire

This acquisition is yet another example of the growing influence of the Delhi Capitals in Hampshire. The GMR Group, who are co-owners of the Delhi Capitals, acquired Rod Bransgrove’s share in Hampshire towards the end of 2024 for close to £120 million, making them a significant shareholder in the county.

In another acquisition, the GMR Group also acquired 49% of Southern Brave’s share in The Hundred. Stubbs’ acquisition is thus a natural progression of this partnership.

Tristan Stubbs’ Impressive Form for Delhi Capitals

Tristan Stubbs has been one of the most impressive players for Delhi Capitals in the last two seasons of the IPL:

  • Runs above 600 in 2024 and 2025
  • Average over 50
  • Strike rate of 190 in 2024
  • Strike rate of 150 in 2025

This performance has led to his selection in the third consecutive season of the IPL.

Familiar Coaching Faces Await Stubbs at Hampshire

Stubbs will also get to work with familiar faces in the coaching ranks during his time with Hampshire. In the SA20 League, Stubbs led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a championship win last month with the head coach, Adi Birrell, and assistant coach Russell Domingo, who are also part of the coaching staff at Hampshire.

Hampshire Delighted to Secure Tristan Stubbs

Hampshire’s Director of Cricket, Giles White, expressed his excitement over the signing:

“Tristan is a hugely talented player with strong connections to the club through his time at Delhi Capitals and his relationships with our coaches, past and present. He’s a wonderful addition, and having him involved is a massive boost for both our squad and the competition as a whole. We can’t wait to see him light up the Bowl.”

Hampshire Finalise Overseas Slots for T20 Blast

With the inclusion of Tristan Stubbs, Hampshire have now filled both overseas spots in the T20 Blast. Australia’s Hilton Cartwright will be back to play for Hampshire after playing an important role in their final appearance last season. This will give Hampshire a well-balanced overseas attack.
