Ajax routs Dortmund 4-0
Ajax beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in a statement victory at the Johann Cruyff Stadium on Tuesday night.
Brazilian winger Antony missed a guilt edge chance early in the game. However, it was the young Brazilian’s night as he was electric throughout the game.
Dusan Tadic stood over the free kick in the 14th minute, won by Antony on the right side of the penalty area. The Serbian forward’s shot on goal took a deflection of Dortmund’s captain Reus before getting into the net. The goal was given as an own goal.
Daley Blind doubled the lead 11 minutes later after Haller set him up for a shot just outside the penalty area. Blind took the shot that went low and far from the keeper.
Antony scored his side’s third in the 57th minute. The winger curled home after he cut into the right side of the penalty box.
Haaland was having an off night for Dortmund as his shots tested the keeper but failed to convert it into goals. He was visibly frustrated. Meanwhile, Sebastian Haller rounded off the victory with a sweet header lobbed over Dortmund’s keeper who stood still.
Ajax stays top of the table with this result. The Amsterdam-based side has won three out of three so far in this season’s Champions League. Ajax is tipped to make a deep run in the competition like the one they did in the 2018/19 season.
AC Milan loses three in a row
AC Milan lost its third straight match in the Champions League group stage. As a result, Milan stays at the bottom of the group with zero points.
Porto scored halfway through the second half through Luis Diaz. Sérgio Conceição’s men rarely gave AC Milan a chance to score. Their defensive organization on the night was brilliant.
The best chances on the night fell for the home side. However, Porto were wasteful of their chances, particularly, Iranian Mehdi Taremi, who was wasteful on the night.
Taremi steered wide a shot from 12 yards and flashed a header past the post from close range. However, the Iranian was crucial in Porto’s only goal of the night. Taremi appeared to barge into Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer as both went for a high ball, which eventually fell to Diaz on the edge of the box, and this time he shot low into the net. The goal was controversial as Milan felt Taremi barged into Bennacer. However, the goal stood and AC Milan succumbed to their third defeat.
