After WrestleMania 41, many fans thought John Cena would retire. Some even believed he might leave WWE while holding the Undisputed WWE Championship. But now, everything has changed.
Triple H made a huge announcement after WrestleMania. He said that Cena is not going anywhere. In fact, he will be back in action very soon. Cena is now confirmed to appear at Backlash 2025, which takes place on May 10 in St. Louis.
John Cena Is Still The Champ and Ready to Defend
John Cena won the big match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania and became the new Undisputed WWE Champion. This win gave him his 17th world title, the most in WWE history.
Fans expected he might announce his retirement right after. But instead, Triple H surprised everyone by saying:
“Before we even get to (Money in the Bank), Backlash. May 10th. St. Louis. You get to see the new champ there, in John Cena. That will be an incredible night as well.”
This clearly means Cena will defend his title at Backlash, though his opponent hasn’t been named yet.
Who Will Face Cena at Backlash? All Eyes on Orton
The biggest question now is: Who will fight John Cena at Backlash?
The strongest name in the mix is Randy Orton. He won his match against Joe Hendry at WrestleMania 41 and looked better than ever. On top of that, Backlash is happening in Orton’s hometown, St. Louis.
That makes him the perfect choice to face Cena in what could be one of the most exciting matches of the year. Orton and Cena have a long history in WWE, with many great matches between them. If they clash again, it will be like two legends going to war.
