Rajasthan Royals gave 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi his IPL debut in the match against Lucknow Super Giants, making him the youngest player ever to play in the tournament. He replaced injured captain Sanju Samson.
14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes IPL History
Born in 2011, Vaibhav is the first IPL player born after the league began in 2008. He was included as an Impact Substitute after RR were asked to bowl first in Jaipur.
Vaibhav rose to fame in 2024 with impressive age-group performances. He became the youngest Indian to play List A cricket and made his Ranji Trophy debut at just 12 years and 284 days.
It has to be noted that Rajasthan Royals signed him for Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, beating Delhi Capitals. Earlier this year, he also scored the fastest hundred by an Indian in U19 Tests -reaching his ton in just 58 balls.
Proud Father Shares Memorable Trial Moment
Vaibhav, born in Samastipur in 2011, played for Bihar in the 2023 edition of the Cooch Behar Trophy. In one match against Jharkhand, he scored 151 runs off 128 balls, including 22 fours and 3 sixes. Vaibhav also participated in a quadrangular series featuring India U19 A, India U19 B, England U19, and Bangladesh U19. His scores in the series were 53, 74, 0, 41, and 0.
Vaibhav’s father described him as an explosive batter, expressing confidence that his son would one day showcase his skills for India. He also shared that the Rajasthan Royals had called Vaibhav for trials in Nagpur in 2024.
“Rajasthan Royals had called him for trials in Nagpur. Vikram Rathour sir (batting coach) gave a match situation where he had to score 17 in an over. Bituwa ne 3 chakka mara. Trials mein aat chakka aur char chauwaa mara (He smashed three sixes. At trials, he hit eight sixes and four fours). He just wants to play cricket and nothing else. A few years back he loved Doremon, not any more,” his father proudly said.
Last week, head coach Rahul Dravid mentioned that the franchise would not hesitate to give the youngster a debut in the ongoing season. Dravid expressed his trust in Vaibhav Suryavanshi and praised the batter’s progress with the Rajasthan Royals.
Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with amazing reactions to Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut. Check out the best reactions:
