13-Year-Old IPL Millionaire Vaibhav Suryavanshi Fails To Shine In U19 Asia Cup vs Pakistan
13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest to get an IPL contract, isn’t paying attention to all the attention he’s receiving. The Bihar cricketer is focused on helping India win the ongoing U-19 Asia Cup in Dubai.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Stays Focused on U-19 Asia Cup Despite IPL Fame
Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction for ₹1.10 crore in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The left-handed batter, who became the youngest Indian to score an international century earlier this year against Australia U-19, shared that he has stayed away from social media since his selection in the Rajasthan Royals team.
Suryavanshi shared this with the official broadcaster ahead of India’s U-19 Asia Cup campaign opener against their arch-rivals Pakistan.
“I am not bothered about what is happening around at the moment and not think too much about the hype going on social media. I have come to play Asia Cup and only focussed on how to win the trophy here,”
Suryavanshi’s Journey to Rajasthan Royals: A ₹1.10 Crore Deal
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, from Samastipur in Bihar, caught everyone’s attention at a very young age. He made his Ranji Trophy debut at just 12 years old, becoming the youngest player to do so. Before that, the left-hander scored nearly 400 runs in five matches during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Bihar.
Suryavanshi’s big break came last October when he scored a brilliant 104 off 62 balls for India U-19 while opening the innings. This performance earned him a call-up for trials with Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
How did Suryavanshi land the Royals deal?
During the trials, Rajasthan Royals’ batting coach Vikram Rathour set up a match simulation for Suryavanshi, where he needed to score 17 runs in an over. The young cricketer impressed the Royals’ support staff by hitting three sixes in the over.
Speaking about his Test ton against Australia U-19, Suryavanshi said, “It was my first Test match and I scored a hundred in the first innings of the first Test. It was a good experience overall.”
The way Suryavanshi plays his shots has been compared to the style of West Indies legend Brian Lara. When asked about his aspirations, Suryavanshi spoke highly of Lara, expressing admiration for the cricketing great.
“I idolise Brian Lara. I have grown up seeing him and try to pace the innings like he used to do. Rest is all my practice. Whatever I do in training, I tried to do the same in matches also,” he concluded.
