Victoria Mboko made a successful end to her fairytale run at the Canadian Open 2025. The Canadian won her first ever WTA title on home soil on Friday four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The 18-year-old was playing her first WTA final while Osaka was bidding for her first tour-level title since the 2021 Australian Open.
“It’s been an incredible week here in Montreal,” Mboko said at the trophy presentation.
“I also want to thank Naomi for an incredible match. I’ve always looked up to her when I was really little, so it’s always great to play with an amazing player like you.”
The 18-year-old produced a remarkable comeback after losing the opening set to the Japanese star, who had established a 3-0 lead as Mboko struggled with service errors.
However, the home favourite made a comeback in the second set, breaking serve to establish a 5-2 lead. Osaka struggled to catch up, and her poor returns allowed Mboko to level the match and force a decider.
It was in the third set when Mboko took a 3-1 lead after saving four break points in a pivotal fourth game that gave her a firm grip on the match as she went on to claim the title after two hours and four minutes of play.

In doing so, Mboko made an achievement in tennis history. She became only the second-youngest player in the Open Era to beat four Grand Slam winners in a single tournament- only behind the legendary Serena Williams at the 1999 US Open.
Aged 18 years and 11 months, Mboko is only the second youngest woman to beat four Grand Slam winners in the same tournament after Serena Williams (17y 11m) at the US Open in 1999.
