Villarreal appoints Jose Rojo Martín ‘Pacheta’ as new coach to replace Quique Setien

Villarreal CF has officially introduced Jose Rojo Martín, also known as ‘Pacheta,’ as their new head coach. Pacheta, originally from Burgos, gained recognition for leading Real Valladolid to promotion to La Liga in 2022. His appointment comes following the recent dismissal of Quique Setien as the coach of the Yellow Submarine.

Jose Rojo Martín ‘Pacheta’ is set to take charge of Villarreal CF, with his first match in charge scheduled against UD Almería at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday, September 17, as confirmed by La Liga India.

Speaking about his new role, Pacheta expressed his eagerness to contribute to the development of a youthful team. He emphasized the importance of Villarreal’s stability as a club, with a president who has held the position for an impressive 26 years, the longest tenure in La Liga history. Pacheta also commended the club’s financial sustainability and strong sense of unity.

Pacheta acknowledged both the club’s ambition and expectations, emphasizing his commitment to meeting those demands. He stressed the need for players to believe in themselves and their potential for success, highlighting his role in fostering that belief.

He remarked, “If the players believe, we will achieve great things. But they have to believe, and to do so, I have to make the players believe. I have to make them better and help them to win. And if I can do that, and then we win, the player will believe. And if we believe, we will win.”

Regarding team selection, Pacheta emphasized the importance of identifying players who command the respect of their teammates, irrespective of age. He emphasized the role of mutual respect within the squad in determining the starting lineup.
