Seven days after the incident, the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) is still dealing with the fallout from Indian cricket greats Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli’s verbal altercation at the May 1 match between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

When Kohli and Naveen-ul Haq got into a fight on the field, it spilt over into post-game handshakes, and Gambhir appeared to defend his players. LSG’s mentor Gambhir and Kohli got into a heated argument that attracted the attention of cricket fans all over the world.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the LSG players were shocked to witness the altercation after Kohli, Gambhir, and LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya had a 45-minute discussion following the two teams’ earlier tournament match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The fight between the two was unexpected because the conversation between them was reportedly very healthy.

According to the same report, Gambhir attempted to send off Kohli after his dismissal because he was upset with Kohli for engaging in some serious sledging of Naveen ul-Haq. When LSG opener Kyle Mayers was dismissed for a golden duck, Kohli had a few words for him.

In a match that was a major setback for LSG, RCB triumphed by 18 runs. In addition to their loss, KL Rahul was injured during the game and is now out for the year. Earlier, in a high-scoring match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, LSG defeated RCB in a last-ball thriller by a margin of one wicket.
