How Virat Kohli helped Mohammd Siraj: Indian fast bowler Mohamed Siraj had a strong performance on the first day of the first Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, being played at Optus Stadium in Perth.
Mohammed Siraj gave excellent support to captain Jasprit Bumrah with the ball, bowling accurate lines and lengths that troubled the batsmen. Although Siraj wasn’t in great rhythm during his first spell, he quickly fixed his issues and made up for it with a strong performance in his second spell.
Virat Kohli’s Insightful Move Helps Siraj
In his second spell, Mohammed Siraj was outstanding, making the ball swing both ways and proving difficult for the batsmen to face. He not only troubled the batters but also took two crucial wickets for the India National Cricket Team, dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne.
It’s fair to say that Virat Kohli played a key role in setting up Marnus Labuschagne’s wicket for Mohammed Siraj. Virat Kohli, who was in the slips, was very active on the field, often advising captain Jasprit Bumrah and the bowlers.
Before Siraj took Labuschagne’s wicket, Kohli was seen signaling to Siraj, possibly suggesting he keep the ball closer to the stumps. Siraj followed this advice, and it led to Labuschagne’s dismissal.
Siraj bowled a full delivery just outside off, which moved off the seam. Labuschagne, trying to flick the ball, was hit on the pads and was given out. The right-handed batsman struggled throughout his innings, scoring only 2 runs off 52 balls.
