Gautam Gambhir has been a man of few words and even fewer expressions for the majority of IPL 2023. But the M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s emotional roller coaster on Monday night prompted a wild celebration of him that lit up the internet. After losing three wickets in the powerplay, nobody would have predicted that Lucknow Super Giants would be able to chase down 213 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, LSG was on track for the big win thanks to Marcus Stoinis’ aggressive fifty and Nicholas Pooran’s lightning-quick half-century before Ayush Badoni’s unfortunate dismissal gave RCB a chance to avert that victory. Eventually, after a drama-filled last over, where Harshal Patel erred in his run-out attempt at the non-striker’s end and Dinesh Karthik fumbled in gathering the last ball, LSG won by one wicket. And amid the jubilant celebration in the LSG dugout, Gambhir’s aggressive act set the internet ablaze. LSG eventually prevailed by one wicket following a dramatic final over in which Dinesh Karthik botched the catch of the final ball and Harshal Patel botched his attempt to run out at the non-striker’s end. Additionally, Gambhir’s aggressive action lit up the internet in the midst of the joyful celebration in the LSG dugout.
Chinnaswamy was left in dead silence with one needed off two before they erupted in rage when Harshal bowled LSG batter, Jaydev Unadkat. RCB still had a chance to force a Super Over. In order to prevent that single, the fielders drew nearer. Faf du Plessis, the captain of the RCB, spoke with the bowler for a final time while LSG batter Ravi Bishnoi, who was at the non-striker’s end, removed his helmet.
Avesh Khan, the batter, attempted to make contact with the low full-toss delivery but was unsuccessful. But he left right away for a single, as did Bishnoi. However, wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik for RCB fumbled at the worst possible time after taking off his right glove, allowing LSG to complete the single and secure that one-wicket victory.
Before their teammates joined them in celebrating the thrilling victory, the cameraperson quickly caught Avesh and Bishnoi doing so. Even though Captain KL Rahul was jubilant in his celebration, it was Gambhir’s wild celebration that got Twitter a-twittering. Gambhir was seen throwing up before giving his LSG teammates high-fives.
After the boisterous celebrations, Gambhir entered the centre as the players from both teams gathered to shake hands. Gambhir continued to look pumped up as he approached RCB legend, Virat Kohli. The two exchanged a quick glance and gave each other a firm handshake.
