In the Super 8 match between Zimbabwe and South Africa in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, a jaw-dropping moment emerged as Zimbabwe’s opening batsman Tadiwanashe Marumani played one of the rarest shots of the tournament. In the high-voltage match between SA and ZIM, Tadiwanashe played a rare one-handed reverse sweep.

Wildest Shot of the Tournament? Tadiwanashe Marumani’s Bizarre Attempt

Marumani, facing spinner George Linde, decided to go for an outrageous reverse sweep in the first over of the match. But, unlike the conventional two-handed grip, the Zimbabwean cricketer decided to go for the shot with the aid of only one hand, thus going against the conventional technique of playing the game.

Though the rate of the bat’s swing was high, the shot was not able to produce the desired results, as the ball ended up hitting the pad, resulting in a dot ball for the Zimbabwean side.

Early Blow for Zimbabwe at Arun Jaitley Stadium

However, the stay at the crease was short-lived as Marumani was dismissed by the South Africa pacer Kwena Maphaka on just 7 runs off 7 balls, clean bowled. Zimbabwe lost their first wicket at 14 runs in just 1.2 overs at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This gave the Proteas immediate control in the SA vs ZIM contest.

A Dead Rubber, But High Stakes for Both Teams

Despite the fact that the match is considered a dead rubber, the teams had their own reasons to achieve from the match. The South African team has already qualified for the semi-finals after beating the Indian and West Indian teams in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. The Proteas are looking to continue their winning run going into the knockout stage of the tournament.

The Zimbabwe team, led by Sikandar Raza, is out of the running in the tournament to reach the semi-finals. However, the team is eager to win the match and end the T20 World Cup 2026 on a high note.

Zimbabwe’s Struggles Continue in SA vs ZIM

The Chevrons had a tough start against the disciplined South African bowling line-up. Within the first 12 overs, Zimbabwe lost five wickets for a mere 87 runs. Though Marumani has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the tournament, he once again failed to convert his good start into a big score.

T20 World Cup 2026 performance of Marumani:

Against Australia: 35 runs in the match-winning knock

Against Sri Lanka: 34 runs in the crucial match

Against South Africa in SA vs ZIM Super 8: 7 runs

Though he has given good starts in the previous matches, he still has to improve in the areas of scoring big.
