WBBL 2025: Rain Washes Out Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers Clash

2 Min Read

Unfortunately, rain spoiled much of the high-voltage action in the Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers match of WBBL 2025 at Junction Oval. Before the downpour, Meg Lanning made a stellar return to the Women’s Big Bash League with a fluent 60 off 41 balls, including nine boundaries and a six.

She was ably supported by Annabel Sutherland, who remained unbeaten on 54 from 39 deliveries, while Danielle Gibson chipped in with a quick-fire 31 off just 15 balls. The Stars capitalised on their solid start to post an imposing total of 184 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs after being sent in to bat.

Amanda-Jade Wellington Shines with the Ball

Once again, the best bowler for the Adelaide Strikers was Amanda-Jade Wellington. The leg-spinner bowled a very tidy spell, taking 2 for 20 and slowing the Stars’ scoring rate during the middle overs.

In the end, the Stars’ attacking batting meant they had a healthy score on the board despite Wellington’s good bowling.

Rain Disrupts Strikers’ Chase

Chasing 185 to win, the Adelaide Strikers had a cautious start to their innings before the rain intervened. Marizanne Kapp provided an early strike for the Stars, knocking over Tammy Beaumont for a second-ball duck.

The pairing of Laura Wolvaardt and Madeline Penna then steadied the innings as the score moved to 32/1 in 4.2 overs. Unfortunately, the rain persisted throughout and no further play was possible, forcing the umpires to call the match a No Result.
