What is the reason behind Rey Mysterio’s finisher’s name 619?
WWE wrestlers when naming their finishers usually go for initials. In this article, we will look at the reason behind Rey Mysterio’s finisher name ‘619’.
Rey Mysterio arguably is one of the greatest cruiserweight wrestlers of all time. Rey Mysterio is also associated with “The 619,” his iconic finisher, in the minds of fans. The name of the iconic move is equally as well-known as its execution. Fans have often wondered the reason behind Rey Mysterio’s finisher being called ‘619’. Most wrestlers choose their name’s initials or something catchy as the name of their finisher. Rey Mysterio’s finishing technique, though, is just a series of digits.
Why is Mysterio’s finisher called 619
The general perception is that if someone has a number in their move’s name then it’s for good luck. Sometimes, all you need to remember is the date. However, Rey Mysterio didn’t have any such justification for calling his finishing move 619. The number has some connection to a place in his life that is very important to him.
The area code of The Ultimate Underdog’s hometown serves as the title of his legendary move. San Diego, California, with a 619 area code, is where Rey Mysterio hails from. He opted to use the code of his hometown rather than his initials or a distinctive name.
Interestingly, Rey Mysterio didn’t come up with the finishing move he performs. He took it up from one of the greatest high flyers in the history of professional wrestling.
A similar variation of the 619 had been used by “Tiger Mask” in Japan during the 1980s.
