The Austrian MootGP 2025 will be memorable for many things, like Marc Marquez winning at the Red Bull Ring for the first time in his career. But it will also be remembered for the rookie who almost stopped him from reaching this milestone. Meet Fermín Aldeguer, the MotoGP rookie who’s made the grid sit up and take notice, especially Marc Marquez, the legend.
If you thought MotoGP rookies simply fill out the numbers, well, Aldeguer is here to prove you wrong. So, let’s take a look at who he is and why he is such a force.
Who Is Fermín Aldeguer?

Let’s rewind a bit. Fermín Aldeguer was born on April 5, 2005, in Spain, and he started riding motorcycles before most kids even learn how to ride a bicycle. By the time he was six, he was already racing, and by nine, he had won his first title. That’s not just talent, that’s passion and hard work mixed with a fearless attitude.
He then went on to win the European Talent Cup, then had an incredible run in Moto2, grabbing multiple wins and podiums, including a four-race win streak at the end of 2023. No wonder the big teams wanted him!
2025 Campaign
Fast forward to 2025, and Fermín Aldeguer finally makes his MotoGP debut with Gresini Racing, riding a Ducati GP24. And he didn’t waste any time. Right from the first races, he was hustling with the best, keeping up with the top guns, and quickly making himself the standout rookie of the year.
The moment that really got everyone’s attention came at the Austrian MotoGP 2025. Marc Marquez, nine-time world champ, was leading, as usual. But in the final laps, someone was coming from behind, ready to risk it all, and it was Fermín Aldeguer! He started ninth and made his way through the traffic, even overtaking big names to chase Marquez for first place.
Imagine the pressure, a rookie chasing down one of the most successful riders of his generation. Marquez later admitted, “I started to be a bit worried… Aldeguer keeps his tyre life better.” And with three laps to go, Aldeguer had closed Marquez’s lead to just over a second, pushing him like no other rider could.

He didn’t clinch the win, but finishing second and being that close to victory was a statement: Fermín Aldeguer isn’t here to participate, he’s here to compete.
A Humble Attitude

What’s even cooler is that Fermín Aldeguer himself stays humble. After the race, he said, “We are rookies, we have to continue to work. Don’t think about the victory now. Continue to push.” But make no mistake, he’s eyeing bigger things, including a factory Ducati seat by 2027.
So, keep your eyes on Fermín Aldeguer. If this rookie can push the likes of Marc Marquez to the limit, only time will tell how many wins and records he’ll rack up. MotoGP’s new superstar has arrived, and the show has only just begun!
