Why has WWE stopped using blood in live matches anymore?
WWE in the last 15 years has gone through many changes. Here is the reason why WWE stopped using blood in live matches.
If a WWE fan compares two eras of WWE in the last 2 decades they are bound to find many differences. WWE during the Attitude Era and WWE today during the PG Era have a lot of major differences. These differences are so big that often fans question why they were made. One of the biggest differences is bleeding during matches. Here is the reason why WWE stopped using blood in live matches.
WWE opted to move into the TV-PG-Rated category from the TV-14 category in July 2008. Wrestlers’ bleeding was a common sight before the company shifted to TV-PG-Rated in 2008. Many matches between great wrestlers were made memorable due to bleeding. One of the instances, when bleeding made a match memorable, was the first Hell in a Cell match featuring ‘The Showstopper’ Shawn Michaels and ‘The Deadman’ Undertaker in 1997 during “Bad Blood”.
Why has WWE stopped using blood in live matches?
The decision to forbid the usage of blood by the WWE was made in July 2008. That year’s “The Great American Bash” was the last pay-per-view where viewers witnessed wrestlers bleeding in the ring. Shawn Michaels was seen fighting Chris Jericho while dripping with blood on live TV.
There are two main explanations for why WWE decided to stop showing live matches with blood. First, on July 22, 2008, the firm chose to switch its content from TV-14 to TV-PG. Numerous adjustments resulted from the move, including a softer tone, word bans, and WWE ceasing to use blood.
Secondly, according to some reports, Vince McMahon banned the idea after ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ bled so much in a 2008 match that as a result, the ring’s canvas had to be changed due to the bleeding. According to reports, that is also the reason the former CEO of WWE declared, “Okay, no more blood on live tv.”
Is there a possibility of the use of blood in future?
In mid-July of last year, there were rumours that USA Network had requested that WWE move Monday Night RAW from TV-PG to TV-14. However, nothing has changed other than a few crude words and a small amount of blood. However, as of right now, WWE is creating programming with a no-blood-on live tv policy. Who knows, circumstances could alter in the future and we might again see the use of blood in live WWE matches again.
