Barcelona and Liverpool would have to be two of the best teams this season as they both won their respective leagues and were deadly whenever they took on the field. But it turns out both the teams are not playing in the FIFA Club World Cup. If they tournament is qualification based, these both teams should have been among the first to qualify.
Barcelona and Liverpool would have to be two of the best teams this season
The qualification rules stand differently in this newly formed tournament and there are only 12 teams allowed from Europe.
Each league can only have 2 teams and not anymore. These rules have acted as a barrier for Liverpool and Barcelona to enter the tournament.
Also every UEFA Champions league winner after 2021 is allowed to enter automatically meaning Chelsea for 2021, Real Madrid for 2022 and 2024, Manchester City for 2023 and PSG for 2025 are in the tournament for UCL titles.
In Barcelona’s case

In Barcelona’s case, Real Madrid is the 1st team to qualify from Spain due to the Champions league trophy and the second team is Atletico Madrid as they have a better coefficient than Barcelona in the tournament after 2021.
In Liverpool’s case

In Liverpool’s case, Chelsea and Manchester City, both qualify for Champions league trophies and due to that there is no place available for any other English club to qualify.
This tournament is not just based on the last year or season but the coefficient is based on the last few seasons and how the teams have performed in the UEFA competitions.
Lamine Yamal and Mohamed Salah will be a big miss from the tournament but this is a chance for Ousmane Dembele to surge ahead in the Ballon d’or race and finish the season with another trophy with PSG.
These two juggernauts will be missing from the Club World Cup but still the competition has enough competitive teams to become an interesting watch.
