In 2019, many wrestling fans were excited when they heard a movie about Hulk Hogan’s life was going to be made. Chris Hemsworth, known for playing Thor in the Marvel movies, was chosen to play Hulk Hogan, and the movie was going to be directed by Todd Phillips, who directed Joker. The film was supposed to show the highs and lows of Hogan’s wrestling career and give a detailed look at his life.
The movie had a great team working on it. Phillips was going to work with Scott Silver, the writer of Joker, and John Pollono, a screenwriter. Everything seemed to be going well for the movie, and fans couldn’t wait to see Chris Hemsworth play the role of the famous wrestler.
But after years of planning and excitement, the movie was suddenly cancelled. Recently, Hulk Hogan himself revealed why the film didn’t happen. On the PBD Podcast, Hogan shared that the cancellation happened because of a problem with Netflix, the company making the film.
WWE Star Hulk Hogan’s Biopic Stopped
According to Hogan, Netflix didn’t make an important payment on time. This missed payment was a breach of the contract. Because of this, Hogan had the option to stop the project, and that’s exactly what he did. He explained, “They missed an important date in the contract. There was a payment that wasn’t made on time, and I had the option to pull out, so I did.”
The movie had a lot of potential, especially with Chris Hemsworth playing Hulk Hogan. Hogan was very excited about Hemsworth’s role and believed that the actor could have done an amazing job. He even thought Hemsworth might have won an Oscar for his performance. Hogan said, “Chris had never played a real person before, and he could have won an Oscar for this.”
Director Todd Phillips disappointed
Director Todd Phillips was also disappointed that the project didn’t happen. In an interview, he shared that he loved the idea of the movie and was passionate about it, but he admitted that the film won’t be happening now. Phillips said, “I loved what we were trying to do, but it’s not going to come together.”
Hogan also talked about the movie’s script. He thought it was great and said that it showed both the good and bad sides of the wrestling world. He had worked closely with the writers for three years to help them understand the wrestling business, sharing both the positive and negative aspects of his career. Hogan said, “The script was amazing. I told them the good and the bad things about wrestling, and the script had a very dark tone.”
Even though the movie is no longer happening, Hulk Hogan is still in the spotlight. He continues to support Donald Trump, who is now the 47th President of the United States.
