Ravi Bishnoi, the Indian wrist spinner, who is known for his mystery deliveries, fast googlies, fielding, and heroics in international and Indian Premier League cricket. For India in T20 Internationals, the wrist spinner is a gun bowler who can bowl in the death overs and take wickets when needed. With an average of 20.45, he has taken 32 wickets in 46 matches.
He has been a leading spinner for India in T20Is for the last 3 to 4 years. On India’s tour to England 2026, in the 5-match T20I series, the 25-year-old spinner is now surrounded by a major controversy after the 2nd T20I match held at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
The 2nd T20 International at Old Trafford: Ravi Bishnoi’s Performance
The second encounter between England and India, held at Old Trafford Cricket Ground on 4th July 2026, began with India winning the toss, and Shreyas Iyer elected to bat first. In the first innings, the young debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma opened for India. A brilliant effort by the Team India batters, with the blistering knock of Ishan Kishan’s 49 runs, Abhishek Sharma’s 43 runs, Shreyas Iyer’s 37 runs, and Tilak Varma in the lower order contributing 24 runs in 11 balls, led them to a total of 190/7.
In the second innings, the target for England was 191 runs in 20 overs, with a required run rate of 9.55 runs per over. Arshdeep Singh struck early, making the openers return to the pavilion quickly, dismissing Phil Salt and Jos Buttler in the first overs. Then, after the two early wickets, English captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell stitched together a partnership of 50 runs in 24 balls. The partnership was broken by Axar Patel on the 4th delivery of the 5th over. Later, Jacob Bethell took the innings forward with Tom Banton. The situation for Team India was under control till the 16th over, as England needed 49 runs in 24 balls.
Ravi Bishnoi’s over in the 17th over turned the game, and it went into the hands of England as he conceded 29 runs in his over. On the very first delivery of the 17th over, Bethell hit a six. On the 2nd ball, it was a no-ball by Bishnoi, and on the free hit, Bethell charged him again for a maximum, and this brought up his fifty. On the 3rd delivery, England scored 2 runs.
On the 4th ball, Bethell hit another four. On the 5th delivery, he smashed another six, and the expensive over for Team India ended with a double on the last ball of the over. Things went out of control, and India went under high pressure as the match slipped away, and England needed just 20 runs from 18 balls in the last 3 overs. The winning 2 runs came on 18.6 overs off Jofra Archer’s bat, and England won the match by 4 wickets.
Ravi Bishnoi’s performance was disappointing. In his 4-over spell, he gave away 60 runs and took 0 wickets with an economy of 15. He was the most expensive bowler in Team India’s bowling line-up. After his costly over and disappointing performance, he may get dropped for the next 3 T20Is, and there can be some changes in the playing XI, as young pacer Prince Yadav or Washington Sundar can take his spot and replace him for the 3rd T20I, which is going to be held at Trent Bridge on 7th July 2026.
