Punjab Kings (PBKS) are all set to face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026 Match No. 58 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Shreyas Iyer‘s side will be keen to secure two crucial points, snap their four-match losing streak, and keep their playoff hopes alive.
However, rain could play spoilsport in Thursday’s clash, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an Orange Alert across several regions. According to the current forecast, Dharamsala will be under 70 per cent cloud cover, making a rain interruption or a complete washout highly possible.
PBKS and MI will share points in case of washout
PBKS had to cancel their pre-match practice session due to a heavy downpour on the eve of the game. In case the PBKS vs MI clash gets washed out, both the team will get a point each.
Although Punjab Kings will remain mathematically alive in the playoff race if the match is washed out and the points are shared, their chances of securing the top two spot will become uncertain. After their clash against the Mumbai Indians, PBKS will take on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who currently sit atop the points table with 16 points, followed by facing Lucknow Super Giants in their final league fixture.
Punjab Kings chances of top two spot look slim
Even if PBKS manages to win both the match against RCB and LSG, they will finish on 18 points, and their chances of surpassing the top two sides RCB and Gujarat Titans, both currently on 16 points, look narrow.
Earlier, Punjab Kings have already been involved in a rain-hit match in IPL 2026 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Kolkata Knight Riders. Punjab Kings was the only unbeaten team in the tournament, but such is the nature of th format and IP that fortunes can swing either way rather quickly.
