Neymar Junior has finally received the call he had been waiting for. He was trying so hard to make it into Brazil’s squad, and finally, he made it. The former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. Star has been named in Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man Brazil national football team squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding his international future over the past several months.

Neymar’s last appearance for Brazil came back in October 2023. Since then, injuries and fitness concerns have kept him away from the national setup, raising serious doubts about whether he would feature in Ancelotti’s World Cup plans. Despite the ongoing speculation, the Brazilian head coach consistently maintained that the door remained open for the veteran forward’s return.

Head Coach Ancelotti reveals the Squad

Ancelotti officially unveiled Brazil’s final 26-player squad on Monday, May 18, 2026, during a special announcement event held at Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro.

Now representing Santos FC, Neymar makes his return to the national team after an absence of nearly three years, marking a significant moment in his journey back to the biggest stage in world football.

How did Neymar Junior make it into the Squad?

Neymar Jr.’s return to the Brazil national football team did not happen overnight. Since taking charge, Carlo Ancelotti had repeatedly said that Neymar would only be considered if he could get himself back to full fitness and show he was ready for the intensity of international football again.

Over the last few months, the Brazilian star worked quietly to rebuild himself physically after a long spell away from the national side. His improvement was enough to convince Ancelotti and the coaching staff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad announcement.

For Brazil, Neymar’s selection is about far more than his name or popularity. The squad already has young talent, but what Neymar brings is experience, calmness under pressure, and the mentality of a player who has carried the nation’s expectations for years. With the World Cup approaching, Brazil believes his presence could make a huge difference both on and off the pitch.

Neymar Returns for One Final World Cup Dream

Coach Ancelotti explained that beyond his quality on the pitch, Neymar’s experience at the highest level and his connection with the squad make him an important figure for the team. According to the Brazil coach, the forward’s presence helps strengthen the atmosphere within the camp ahead of a major tournament.

The upcoming World Cup is expected to be Neymar’s fourth , and most likely final appearance on football’s biggest stage. The Brazilian superstar already holds the record as the all-time leading scorer for the Brazil national football team with 79 international goals.

Brazil have been drawn in Group C alongside Morocco national football team, Haiti national football team, and Scotland national football team. Their World Cup journey begins on June 14 with a crucial opening match against Morocco.
