WTC Final: “Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, both should play in the WTC Final”, says former BCCI selector MSK Prasad
In an interview MSK Prasad expressed his views freely on his tenure as Chief of national selection committee, WTC final, dealing with reactions from people for his selection decisions etc.
Former India player and former chief selector of the Indian National Cricket Team, Mannava Sri Kanth Prasad popularly known as MSK Prasad opined that both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja should play in the World Test Championship Final.
MSK Prasad has played six Test matches and 17 One Day Internationals in his professional career for India. In an interaction with cricket.com, Prasad feels that both Ashwin and Jadeja should play the WTC final as seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya isn’t picked in the squad for England tour.
“I firmly believe that both spinners should play. If Hardik Pandya was available and conditions were helpful then I would have said go with it (just one spinner) otherwise you should start treating Jadeja as a batsman because he has been getting runs across formats. He is a complete package,” said Prasad.
“It will be a big blunder if we even think of dropping Ashwin from the playing XI. I know that conditions are going to be different but the kind of experience he has, with the kind of form he is in, all the five bowlers should play,” he added.
During his tenure of selecting teams for India, Prasad made some really tough decisions. Be it picking Vijay Shankar ahead of Ambati Rayudu, moving on from MS Dhoni, dropping Yuvraj Singh, etc.
“During your journey as a selector, you will have to make some tough decisions even against the legends of the game in the interest of the future of Indian cricket. Identifying the right successor is the most important job of a selector. You have to be dispassionate as a selector and can’t be emotional about taking tough decisions.
“And the reason for having a selection committee is to create successors. There can’t be another Dhoni or Sachin (Tendulkar) as they are very unique and their contribution is invaluable and no one can question that,” Prasad told.
We played our little part in helping this Indian team play the final of the World Test championship explained 46-year-old MSK Prasad.
“You need to do what you are supposed to do. Our deeds are there to see. If seven superstars of the Indian team don’t play in an important match, seven youngsters step in their place (the 2020-21 Australia tour) from India A and win you the game, it is a big compliment for our hard work,” he said.

We played our little part in helping this Indian team play the final of the World Test championship. This team thoroughly deserves it since they have been number one for the last four years. Now, I can’t wait to watch the final,” MSK Prasad concluded.
