Yashika Bhatia created history at Lord’s by scoring a Test ton, and she became the first woman cricketer to reach this milestone in a Test match. The Indian wicket-keeper, during the one-off Test match against England on 12th July, on Day 3 of the Test match, scored 113 runs in 158 balls. The Indian women’s innings began with some early wickets as Shafali Verma’s wicket was the first breakthrough for England Women in the 21st over, after scoring 33(55). Shafali, in Sophie Ecclestone’s over, got out.
Smriti Mandhana and Yashika Bhatia took the innings further with a great partnership of 73 runs in 144 balls, helping Team India to stabilize the early innings and set a platform for the upcoming batters, and Yashika Bhatia, after Mandhana’s dismissal, held one end. On Day 3, in the 44.4 over, Lauren Bell struck Smriti with England Women’s second wicket.
Jemimah Rodrigues couldn’t stay much longer on the crease and, in the 49th over, she was bowled by Lauren Bell. Indian women’s Harmanpreet Kaur joined Yashika Bhatia and scored a 35(44) run partnership. Sophie Ecclestone dismissed her for 16 (34). Conditions were getting tight for Team India, as on the score of 181, IND-W had already lost 3 wickets.
Yashika Bhatia stood like a wall for IND-W on one end, scoring boundaries and singles from time to time, and her patiently played innings led Team India to a score of 341/7d, as Deepti Sharma played an anchoring innings in a 52-run partnership with Yashika Bhatia.
