Para-Badminton finally made its debut at the Games, the sport will be held at Yoyogi National Stadium from 1st Sep – 5th September 2021 with 14 gold medals up for grab. With overall 90 Para shuttlers competing at its first-ever appearance at Paralympic. India has a chance for a podium finish as 7 Indian shuttlers are contesting in 7 events at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
Shutters Pramod Bhagat & Palak Kohli lost their Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 Group Stage Match 9-21, 21-15, 19-21 against France’s Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noël. The Indian pair has a tough draw as they are placed in Group B along with 2nd seeds French pair and world No.3 Thailand’s Siripong Teamarrom/Nipada Saensupa.
The match was played in Court 3 of Yoyogi National Stadium and it lasted for 43 minutes. The French duo won the 1st game by a huge margin 21-9. But the Indian pair had an excellent comeback in the second game, to win it by a 6 points lead and leveled the match. In the decider, Bhagat & Kohli were trailing 13-9 but they gave their all and took a 14-15 lead. But in the tense situation, they couldn’t maintain the lead, as Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noël won the match.
Both Pramod Bhagat and Palak Kohli played their respective singles matches today at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
