The 2021 Indonesia Masters have started, and one of the 1st Round matches of the Men’s Singles event was played between Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama and India’s Lakshya Sen on Tuesday, 16th November 2021.
The 2021 Indonesia Masters is a Super 750 Level Tournament held at the Bali International Convention Centre located at Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia. It is being contested from 16th to 21st November.
Meanwhile, the tournament got upgraded from a Super 500 into a Super 750 this year.
2021 Indonesia Masters First Round: Lakshya Sen advances into the next round
This Men’s Singles 1st Round match was played at Court 2. Meanwhile, Kanta Tsuneyama is World No. 10 whereas India’s Lakshya Sen is Ranked 19th, his highest ranking.
In the Head-to-Head Record, this is their first meeting.
At the 2021 Indonesia Masters, both Tsuneyama & Sen are unseeded. In this First Round encounter – Lakshya Sen won the 1st Game by 21-17. Sen was trailing in the beginning but just before the mid-game interval, he levelled 9-9 and then was leading 11-9. In the latter half, Sen had a 5 point lead of 18-13. Thus, took advantage of it and won the 1st Game.
In the 2nd Game, it was closely contested. However, the higher-ranked Kanta Tsuneyama won by 21-18. At the start, it was 0-4 in favour of Sen. But the Japanese shuttler then won 5 consecutive points to lead by 6-5. Then the Indian led 10-11. It was neck-to-neck afterwards until 15-14, from there Tsuneyama won crucial points to maintain the lead. Resulting in winning this game, and taking the encounter into a decider.
Meanwhile, in the 3rd Game – Kanta Tsuneyama was leading just before the mid-game interval. Until 8-8 and from there on the Indian took the lead of 11-8. Lakshya Sen maintained the momentum and eventually won the decider by 21-17.
As a result, Lakshya Sen won against Kanta Tsuneyama 21-17, 18-21, 21-17 in about 1h 08m. Thus, the rising Indian Men’s Singles player Lakshya Sen has advanced into the next round. Where he will face the World No. 1 Kento Momota from Japan.
