After the success of the Hundred tournament in England, which used a 100-ball format for the game, the USA Cricket chief Paraag Marathe has said that the short Twenty20 format is tailor-made for the 2028 Olympics which suggests cricket’s return to the Olympic Games.
It is to be noted that the administrators have also approved of any other convenient format, but it will surely ensure the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) are preparing to bring this game back to the game.
For so many years the popular Indian Premier League has also sustained and remained popular. A three to our hour game is more likely than a long five-day test match.
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), another alternative that can be implemented in the 2028 Olympics is the Hundred format which included a 100-ball game
“I think the T20 format is easily digestible and works. It certainly works from a timing perspective. It fits the format of American sports, roughly three hours,” Marathe explained.
Everyone is extremely delighted that Cricket is being considered as part of the Games and that’s what’s important. The IOC is open to other formats of cricket too.
