On Monday, seven Indians participated in the quarterfinals of the Asian Youth boxing. From these participants, 4 players have qualified to perform at the semifinals of the tournament.
After a day of mixed results for India, 4 Indian players successfully entered the semifinals of The Asian Youth Championship is underway in Dubai. At present the tournament for youth and junior boxers (both men and women) is being conducted for the very first time.
Among those who qualified for the semifinals include players like Jaydeep Rawat (71kg) who defeated UAE’s Mohammed Eissa.
There was Vanshaj (63.5kg) won 5-0 against Tajikistan’s Makhkamov Dovud.
Daksh Singh (67kg) defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Eldar Turdubaev 4-1.
And then there was Suresh Vishvanath (48kg) against Kyrgyzstan’s Amateur Zholbborosv who emerged victorious with a 5-0.
Unfortunately, players like Victor Saikhom Singh (54kg), Vijay Singh(57kg), and Rabindra Singh lost to their opponents and did not secure a spot in the semifinals.
This year the Indian Contingent is very small and precise due to the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. Many countries have either skipped the tournament or participated in a small number.
There is interesting price money and medal for those who claim the first, second and third position and will be rewarded accordingly.
