AFC Approves Formation of Reform Taskforce to Enhance Model

In a significant move aimed at further improving its governance model, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has gained approval for the establishment of an AFC Reform Taskforce. This decision was made during the third meeting of the AFC Executive Committee held on the eve of the World Cup final.

This marks the second reform task force initiated by the AFC, following the introduction of the Governance Reform Taskforce in 2016, which played a pivotal role in shaping the current governance structure of the AFC.

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa highlighted the importance of continuously strengthening governance practices. He stated, “With the establishment of the AFC Reform Taskforce, we want to ensure that the AFC remains at the forefront of implementing the best governance practices.”

The AFC, having set high governance standards in 2016, aims to stay ahead in implementing reforms and maintaining its status as a model confederation. President Shaikh Salman emphasized the need to strive for the betterment of the sport for future generations, expressing confidence that the AFC will continue to lead in good governance across the sporting world.

The composition of the AFC Reform Taskforce is yet to be announced, and its recommendations will play a crucial role in shaping the future governance structure of the AFC.

In another aspect of the meeting, the AFC Executive Committee received a briefing from a representative of the Palestine Football Association (PFA). The representative shed light on the challenges faced by the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, due to the ongoing conflict.

The committee members unanimously expressed their strong support and solidarity with the PFA and the Palestinian people. President Shaikh Salman reaffirmed the AFC’s unwavering commitment to stand by the PFA during these challenging times.
