The opening match of SA20 Season 3 was exciting, with batter Dewald Brevis impressing everyone with his powerful hitting. His performance helped MI Cape Town win by a strong 97 runs against the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, in Gqeberha on Thursday.

Dewald Brevis Powers MI Cape Town to Big Win

Brevis, nicknamed “Baby AB” because of his resemblance to South African legend AB de Villiers, wowed everyone with a stunning 57 off just 29 balls. This included an amazing no-look six that left both fans and commentators amazed.

Facing Beyers Swanepoel, Brevis moved his front leg and hit a powerful shot over wide long-on without even looking at the ball’s path, on the very first ball of the 13th over.

Early Setbacks Overcome as MI Cape Town Reaches 174/7

MI Cape Town chose to bat first and overcame early setbacks when Reeza Hendricks (0) and Rassie van der Dussen (16) were dismissed cheaply.

The task then fell to Dewald Brevis, who used a mix of controlled aggression and impressive stroke play to steady the innings. There were useful contributions from Colin Ingram (22), Connor Esterhuizen (22), and a late flurry from Delano Potgieter (25 not out off 12) and George Linde (23 not out off 17), helping MI Cape Town reach a challenging total of 174/7.

In response, Sunrisers Eastern Cape struggled under the pressure of the chase. Trent Boult made an impact with a fiery third over, taking the wickets of Zak Crawley (12) and Tom Abell (0) off consecutive deliveries.

The wickets kept falling as Delano Potgieter destroyed the Sunrisers Eastern Cape batting with an impressive 5/10, including a three-wicket over.

The Sunrisers were bowled out for only 77 runs, with no batter scoring more than 20 runs. Captain Aiden Markram (19) fought hard but didn’t get enough support as the rest of the team struggled.
