Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma was announced captain of the UP Warriorz on 10 February 2025. Former captain, Alyssa Healy will not be able to join the tournament due to a foot injury under whose captaincy, the team secured third place in the previous edition of WPL.
UP Warriorz acquired Deepti Sharma for Rs. 2.6 crore in the first auction and she has been a notable player for the team during the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023.
She was retained by the same team for her outstanding performance during the 2024 season where she scored a total of 295 runs and became the fifth-highest run scorer in the tournament’s history.
She’s not only an outstanding batter but also an amazing bowler and she took 10 wickets including a historic hat-trick against Delhi Capitals. This made her the first Indian bowler to secure a hat-trick in the tournament’s history.

She had previously captained Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge and also served as a vice-captain at domestic-level teams. She became the fourth Indian player to captain a WPL team.
Her recent achievements include being the most valuable player of the WPL 2024 and the first Indian woman to register a double 1000 runs and 100 wickets in T20s. She was also honoured for being the highest ODI wicket-taker for the national team. She was also selected in the ICC’s Women’s T20 Team of the Year in 2024.
Regarding her captaincy, she said, “Based on my discussions with her (Healy) in the last two seasons and her mindset, I found out that she used to like taking risks. There were times when we used to think differently on the ground but she always loved taking risks. I have learned that from her.”
“The more we’ll play out of our comfort zone or take tough decisions, the more it’ll help us and lead our team to a good note,” she added.

The whole squad of UP Warriorz includes Deepti Sharma (c), Grace Harris, Kiran Navgire, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Shweta Sehrawat’ Sophie Ecclestone, Tahlia McGrath, Vrinda Dinesh, Saima Thakor, Chamari Athapaththu, Alana King, Chinelle Henry, Uma Chetry, Anjali Sarvani, Poonam Khemnar, Gouher Sultana, Arushi Goel and Kranti Goud.
