4 chairmen, 8 coaches, and 26 selectors, know how PCB ruined Pakistan cricket in three years

The Pakistan Cricket Team is going through the most shameful phase in its history these days. The performance of the team has been declining continuously for the last three years. The defeats on the field and the upheaval of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) off the field have completely ruined Pakistan cricket. Now, the latest case is of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where Pakistan, being the host, was eliminated from the group stage without registering a single win.

The team is continuously falling due to PCB’s politics and lack of transparency in the selection of players. The team has neither a permanent captain nor a strong strategy. As a result, the Pakistan team, which was once considered one of the most dangerous teams in the world, is now losing even against weak teams.

Has the constant turmoil in PCB ruined Pakistan cricket?

The biggest reason for the current bad condition of Pakistan cricket is their own cricket board. In the last three years, there has been so much upheaval in the PCB, which has hardly happened in any country’s cricket board in such a short time. Since 2023, the PCB chairman has changed four times, and the most surprising thing is that during this period, eight coaches were also changed in the team.

Even on the captaincy front, PCB has repeatedly changed its decisions, leaving the players completely confused. Four captains were changed in the white ball team in three years. Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan have been the captains of the white ball teams at different times.

However, Shan Masood continues to be the captain of the Test cricket team, who is also reportedly in the team on the recommendation of his father and one of the influential people of Pakistan cricket, Mansoor Masood Khan. The good thing about Shan is that he speaks English well, as he has been playing county cricket continuously before this.

Not only this, but in these three years, the selectors of PCB also kept changing frequently, and during this period, the selection committee was changed 26 times. Sometimes, the chief selector or any member was removed, and sometimes someone was suddenly made a part of this committee.

The politics of PCB had a direct impact on the performance of the players. Due to the frequent change of captaincy and coaching staff, the team could not establish any stable rhythm, due to which their performance also saw a continuous decline.

Pakistan is constantly facing embarrassment in ICC tournaments

The biggest humiliation of the Pakistan cricket team has been in the last three ICC tournaments, where they have not even been able to qualify for the next stage. First of all, Pakistan was eliminated from the group stage in the World Cup 2023, played in India. During that time, they made various excuses for their defeat and also made some such statements, after hearing which no one will be able to stop laughing.

After this, in the T20 World Cup 2024, the team surprised everyone when a weak team like the USA defeated them and knocked them out of the tournament. In that match played in Dallas, the co-host team tied the match by scoring 15 runs against Haris Rauf in the last over. After this, in the super over, he scored 17 runs against Mohammad Aamir and also won.

Now the host Pakistan’s troubles continued in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as well. The team had to face defeat by 60 runs against New Zealand in their first match in this tournament. After this, they had to face defeat by 6 wickets against India in the biggest match. In that match, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer defeated the morale of the Pakistani bowlers with their brilliant batting.

Their last group match in the tournament was against Bangladesh, but that match was washed out due to rain. Thus, Pakistan was eliminated from the tournament without a single win. However, they managed to get one point due to the law of nature, otherwise, they might not have gotten even that.

Pakistan’s performance was also the most shameful in the WTC 2023-25

In the last three years, Pakistan’s condition has been very bad, not only in ODIs and T20s but also in Test cricket. The team finished at the bottom in the current WTC cycle. This was the first time in the history of Pakistan cricket that the team finished last in the points table of the World Test Championship 2023-25.

Pakistan’s losing streak in Test cricket continues. Although they did win the series 2-1 against England on home soil in 2024, that was possible only when people like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah were removed from the team. Sajid Khan and Noman Ali won the series for their team by taking a total of 39 wickets in the last two matches, otherwise, they would never have forgotten Harry Brook’s triple century and Joe Root’s double century in the first match.

Pakistan cricket’s reputation has fallen due to defeat against weak teams

The biggest reason for Pakistan’s falling reputation is that the team is now losing even against those countries that are considered weak in the cricket world. In 2023, Afghanistan defeated them for the first time by 2-1 in a T20 series and a match in the World Cup.

After this, in 2024, they lost for the first time in a T20 match to Ireland, while soon after that, the USA created a sensation by defeating Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan’s reputation on home ground was completely ruined. In 2024, Bangladesh clean swept Pakistan 2-0 in their own home. This was the first time they had to face defeat from Bangladesh. After this, recently West Indies tied the 2 match Test series against them 1-1.

Is the future of Pakistan cricket in the dark?

If we look at the activities of the Pakistan cricket team from 2022, i.e., for the last three years, it seems as if the future of Pakistan cricket is in the dark. If PCB does not take any big step soon, then in the coming years, Pakistan cricket will be seen only in history books.

After continuous defeats, Pakistan fans are completely angry. There is a lot of anger being expressed against PCB on social media. Fans say that the politics going on in PCB has completely ruined the team. Frequent changes have spoiled the atmosphere of the team. Due to frequent upheaval, the players are struggling to save their place in the team instead of focusing on their performance.

Father-in-law and son-in-law duo is going to join Pakistan team

Recently, it has been reported that former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is going to become the head coach of Pakistan, and he wants to make his son-in-law Shadab Khan the captain, who could not even make it to the team in the Champions Trophy 2025. On the other hand, who can forget Mushtaq’s press conference about ‘‘कुदरत का निज़ाम’.

Although Shadab is a good all-rounder, he was the captain of the team when Pakistan lost 1-2 in the T20 series against Afghanistan in 2023. He was dropped from the team due to his consistently poor performance and he could not show any magic in both batting and bowling in the domestic tournament Champions Cup.

This means that even if the chairman changes, the head coach changes or the captain changes, the practice of putting your favorite players in the team and not giving talented players a chance to come to the dressing room will continue in Pakistan cricket. Looking at the current situation, it would not be wrong to say that the bad phase of Pakistan cricket is going to last longer. Fans will also keep hearing the upcoming captains saying “Inshallah boys played very well” after losing in future matches.
