In the UEFA Champions League final on May 29, Chelsea and Manchester City playing against each other, Gareth Southgate to miss out on important players like Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, John Stones, Kyle Walker, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell, and Reece James for Euro 2020. Plus they are expected to join the England Camp until June 5 at the earliest possible. This would be three days following England’s friendly with Austria in Middlesbrough, and the day before their final warm-up match against Romania.

Manchester United’s foreseen progress to the Europa League final will mean Gareth Southgate is expected to have 11 players dropping from England’s final warm-up games ere the start of the European Championships. Arsenal can overcome Villarreal in their semi-final second leg on Thursday, it could be probably up to 13 players absent almost half of the team that to crucial players might not be there for England fixtures.

Even with UEFA’s decision to allow elongated squads of 26 for the tournament, it would mean Southgate has only 13 players at his disposal for the friendly matches against Austria and Romania. Implying he would surely have to call up extra players to feature in those fixtures, who could then potentially go on to a standby list for the competition.

Southgate to name his squad for the Euro 2020, on May 25. Southgate has stated, “he will try to ensure all England’s players will have at least a week’s rest after they finish their domestic seasons before they join up with the national team for the tournament.”
