Mitchell Starc Destroys SRH With First-Ever T20 Five-Wicket Haul: Delhi Capitals delivered an outstanding bowling performance in Vizag, restricting Sunrisers Hyderabad to 163 on a usually high-scoring pitch. The star of the show was Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who took his best-ever IPL figures of 5-35, including three key wickets in the powerplay.
Purple Cap Leader: Mitchell Starc Tops IPL 2025 Wicket-Takers
Mitchell Starc became only the second bowler in DC’s history to take a five-wicket haul, following Amit Mishra. Mishra’s 5-17 came back in the first IPL season in 2008, interestingly against another Hyderabad-based team, the Deccan Chargers.
Starc returned for his third over in the powerplay and made an instant impact by taking the crucial wicket of Travis Head. A sharp short ball forced Head to edge it behind to KL Rahul. By removing his in-form teammate, Starc put DC in control early in the game.
Delhi Capitals Restrict SRH After Last Year’s High-Scoring Clash
Later in the innings, Mitchell Starc returned for his final over and wrapped up the SRH innings with two more wickets. He took his fourth wicket when Harshal Patel was caught by a brilliant diving effort from Axar at mid-off. He then completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Wiaan Mulder.
With this performance, Starc now leads the Purple Cap standings, having taken 8 wickets in just two matches. This includes his three-wicket haul against LSG in DC’s opener. DC is utilizing Starc mainly in the powerplay, relying on their other bowlers for the middle and death overs.
Delhi Capitals, who had conceded 266 to SRH last year, did well to restrict them to 163 on a pitch that still favors batting. Starc got strong support from Kuldeep Yadav, who bowled brilliantly, taking 3-22 in his four overs, despite the challenge of bowling to big hitters like Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma.
