Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, faced another failure in the current Indian Premier League (IPL). He struggled to perform in the match against Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Rishabh Pant’s Struggles Continue in IPL 2025
Lucknow Super Giants bought wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for a huge INR 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. However, he hasn’t lived up to his big price tag so far.
Pant has struggled both as a captain and as a batsman. He began his IPL 2025 campaign with a duck (0 runs) against his old team, Delhi Capitals, followed by just 15 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In his third match of the season, Pant was out for only 2 runs against Punjab Kings. He had a chance to bounce back on Friday (April 5) when he played against Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Rishabh Pant came out to bat at number four when the Lucknow Super Giants were in a strong position. He got off the mark on his first ball and seemed set to build on the good starts from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram.
However, Pant’s innings lasted only 6 balls. Hardik Pandya bowled a delivery that held up, and Pant mistimed a shot, edging it to Corbin Bosch at mid-off, who caught it one-handed. This was a big setback for the Lucknow Super Giants.
Sanjiv Goenka’s Expressive Reaction to Pant’s Failure
As soon as Bosch caught the ball, the cameras shifted to the stands, where LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka had a noticeable reaction. Known for being expressive, Goenka was seen smiling as Pant failed once again.
